(Canada) Alberta: Autism school opens; "We are full"

Sept 13, 2024, CTV: School for autistic children opens

The new Jim Jiwani Autism Academy in Edmonton is unlike any school in western Canada in that it focuses on kids with autism. Amanda Anderson reports.

VIDEO: This building, once a car dealership, is now filled with the sounds of learning.

It’s not just a school, it’s a movement towards a better Alberta. . . .

We paid a lot of attention to the lighting and the acoustics and the flow in the building, and how the spaces were designed specifically for our kids.

There are 40 students in kindergarten to grade three. Class sizes are small with one adult for every two or three students.

Staff carry visual aids to help with communication and understanding. . . .

Tuition at the private school is $9,500 a year. . . .

We are full. . . .

The academy hopes to expand, but says it will need more community donors.
