VIDEO
Virginia Institute of Autism is looking to expand its services so it can serve more than double the amount of students.
Ethan Long, Institute head
It will be a true improvement over what we currently have, and it will be located right here on this campus.
We’re going to be building a new school. . . doubling our size. It’s going to allow us to serve up to 80 students. . .
We’ll have 10 classrooms. . . . Those rooms will have individual learning spaces, group learning spaces.
. . . We’ll be serving 8 students with very severe challenging behaviors. . . .
Reporter:
Currently it’s $650,000 away from its $5 and a half million dollar goal.
Long:
. . .We’re going to have this expertise that we can share with the greater Charlottesville community. Schools can rely on us to send us their students. We can help work with them, hopefully get them back to the public school.
