MINISTER Simon Harris opened Gaelscoil na Lochanna’s new Seomra Ciúin on Friday, after the school community demonstrated a strong commitment to become a neurodiversity affirmative school.
In the spring of this year, the Blessington school hosted a webinar to open a discussion on neurodiversity in Gaelscoils which was facilitated by neurodivergent consultant Laura Murray of Neuroaffirmative Ireland….
Since then, the Principal Seán O’Cearnaigh has taken a special interest in ensuring that the Gaelscoil is a neurodiversity friendly school and decided to create a quiet space for children to have access to when needed….
Gaelscoil na Lochanna has been approved for a 16 classroom school with two classrooms for autism. Conveyancing on the site continues.
Minister Harris added: “I want to assure Gaelscoil na Lochanna of my continued support on the next stage of their development and I look forward to the permanent school building project moving to design stage.”
