Five schools in Kilkenny are to be funded for additional special needs classes sanctioned by the National Council for Special Education (NCSE) for the 2025/2026 school year.

Scoil Bhride (Paulstown), Glenmore National School, Listerlin Mixed National School, Scoil Mhuire NS (Mooncoin), and Gaelscoil Osrai are all set to benefit under the programme.

Minister of State Jennifer Murnane O’Connor has warmly welcomed the announcement of the new special classes, which also include Newtown National School, Dunleckney National School, and Myshall National School in Carlow. The investment, supported by Budget 2025, will provide up to 300 special school places and 400 special classes nationwide, accommodating over 2,700 students.


“This funding is a game-changer for special education in Carlow-Kilkenny,” said Minister of State Murnane O’Connor.
