(Ireland) Offaly: New special school to open in Sept; "growing demand for additional needs supports"

April 11, 2025, Offaly Independent: St. Rynagh’s NS officially sanctioned for a new special class

St. Rynagh’s National School in Banagher has been officially sanctioned for a new special class, due to open in September 2025.

This marks the third special class sanctioned in recent months by Minister McEntee for schools in County Offaly, following similar approvals for Tullamore College and Naomh Mhuire National School, Walsh Island.

Deputy John Clendennen welcomed the news, saying: “This is very welcome news for St. Rynagh’s and for the many families in the area who will directly benefit from the new special class. It is a vital step in ensuring every child has access to the supports and learning environment they need to thrive.

“I want to thank Minister McEntee for her continued commitment to expanding special education provision in Offaly. I will continue to engage closely with the Minister and the Department of Education to secure further investment in special education across the county, as I am very aware this remains a pressing concern for many affected parents and families.”

This announcement is part of a broader Government strategy to expand special education services and meet the growing demand for additional needs supports in mainstream and special education settings.  . . .
