Childhood Lost

Children today are noticeably different from previous generations, and the proof is in the news coverage we see every day. This site shows you what’s happening in schools around the world. Children are increasingly disabled and chronically ill, and the education system has to accommodate them. Things we've long associated with autism, like sensory issues, repetitive behaviors, anxiety and lack of social skills, are now problems affecting mainstream students. Blame is predictably placed on bad parenting (otherwise known as trauma from home).

Addressing mental health needs is as important as academics for modern educators. This is an unrecognized disaster. The stories here are about children who can’t learn or behave like children have always been expected to. What childhood has become is a chilling portent for the future of mankind.

What will happen in another 4 years? How can we go on like this? This is a national (and international) problem of monumental proportions. 11 schools in Co. Wexford are welcoming news that their schools will be offering additional ASD classes.

Speaking to South East Radio News about the announcement was New Ross Councillor Michael Sheehan, “So this is a fantastic news for a lot of parents who are anxious about their sons or daughter going on to a new school without the proper provision. Just want to congratulate the principals of all the schools in the schools’ community and particularly special education needs officer for working with me and working with other representatives and working with the community to make sure that we got a positive resolution. Particularly delighted in New Ross because we have some great schools and then we’re going to have an additional class for people who are making the transition and I think it’s a really good news story for everyone all around.
