Onondaga Co, NY: Blue lights for autism awareness; one in 36, one in 45 adults have autism

April 10, 2025, CNY: Onondaga County buildings light up blue for World Autism Month

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — April is World Autism Month, and Onondaga County is lighting up several of its facilities in blue to raise awareness. The Carnegie Building, Onondaga County Courthouse, Nicholas J. Pirro Convention Center, and the Main Atrium of Gallagher Hall are participating in the yearly tradition.

The non-profit organization Autism Speaks has led the Light it Up Blue campaign for 20 years. Their mission is to promote solutions for the autistic community and "Redefine Possible."

"Onondaga County is proud to honor World Autism Month through this small gesture to drive awareness and help 'redefine possible' for people with autism," said County Executive Ryan McMahon.

In the United States 1 in 36 children and 1 in 45 adults are on the autism spectrum.

The buildings will remain lit blue though April 11. World Autism Awareness Day is observed each year on April 2.
