July 16, 2020, Trowbridge Gazette and Herald: Council set out five-year education plan (SW England) https://www.gazetteherald.co.uk/news/18572380.council-set-five-year-education-plan/ North Yorkshire County Council has organised a five-year plan to improve Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) education for children and young people. The plan includes developing more targeted mainstream provision and working with parents, carers and health providers to support younger children with SEND. “These actions are ambitious and rightly so,” said Jane le Sage, assistant director for inclusion with children and young people’s services. “This updated plan will enable us to provide more specialised, long-term provision in mainstream schools, as well as more places in special schools, a flexible system of learning and support from early years right through to adulthood.”
Childhood Lost
Children today are noticeably different from previous generations, and the proof is in the news coverage we see every day. This site shows you what’s happening in schools around the world. Children are increasingly disabled and chronically ill, and the education system has to accommodate them. Things we've long associated with autism, like sensory issues, repetitive behaviors, anxiety and lack of social skills, are now problems affecting mainstream students. Blame is predictably placed on bad parenting (otherwise known as trauma from home).
Addressing mental health needs is as important as academics for modern educators. This is an unrecognized disaster. The stories here are about children who can’t learn or behave like children have always been expected to. What childhood has become is a chilling portent for the future of mankind.
