(UK) NI: Mom provides "sensory room" for local school; 'Everybody knows somebody who has got autism'

June 11, 2021, Belfast Live: Belfast mum helps primary school get sensory room as calming environment for kids https://www.belfastlive.co.uk/whats-on/be/belfast-mum-helps-primary-school-20725336?fbclid=IwAR0s71tP65ntYwtzQkpPBFrCZiQQC3n_H4SdtjzTvZN-HDYriDT3SUCXe7w

A Belfast mum has helped her son's former primary school get a sensory room for children to be able to regulate themselves and battle anxiety. Allison Breadon's son Corey who is now 12-years-old was diagnosed with autism at the age of three, and she says a resource like this would have been great during his days at Belvoir Park Primary School…. Also the founder of Belvoir ASD Family Support Group, Allison explained to Be the importance of sensory rooms for not just kids with ASD, but all kids who are experiencing anxiety…. "Even for all children, any child that has anxiety. You see these fads at the minute with these poppets and fidget spinners, all kids use these, not just ASD kids because they do help when they are anxious. They are discreet, they can keep it in their hand."…. "It would make me think twice when choosing a school... if I knew there was a sensory room in the school, especially for a child with behavioral problems, that they were able to go in there. Even a child with anxiety, that they can go into that wee room, they are going to be safe in there, it's just perfect…. The mum-of-two would also love for every school in Northern Ireland to have this resource. "Everybody knows somebody who has got autism. There's so many schools that have ASD provision attached to the school and every school has children with ASD in it. I do believe that this would benefit every school." Katherine McKnight, Acting Vice Principal and Head of Special Provision at Belvoir PS thanked Allison for her efforts.
